Find out which Operating Systems you are able to run on your server.
An Operating System is the software that interacts with the hardware of a PC and works as the intermediary between apps and the hardware, which includes peripheral devices such as a printer, a mouse or a keyboard. When you run software, it transfers requests to the OS through an API (Application Program Interface) and the communication is done through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Similar to a personal computer, hosting servers also feature an Operating System which acts as a host for all the software installed on them, including script applications or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, and so on. A virtual machine can be created on a physical one, so you will be able to install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast with the physical server host Operating System.
Multiple OS in VPS
Our virtual private server
plans include three Linux releases that you could choose from for the Operating System of your new web server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. Aside from being absolutely free, the OSs are really stable and safe and the main reason to offer you all 3 of them is to make sure that you'll be able to run any kind of application that you'd like, as different pieces of software have different requirements regarding the environment they can be used on. Each one of the three OSs is backed by a large community of developers who have generated many hundreds of software packages that you can install and use on your VPS. Based on the Operating System that you pick, you will also be able to select between 3 different Control Panels to control your hosting content. Needless to say, should you decide that you need a new OS, we could always reinstall the server with it. As an additional upgrade, we also provide weekly updates of the Operating System for maximum stability and security.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Hosting
In case you decide to obtain one of our dedicated servers
, you'll find three Operating Systems on the registration page because we want to give you a broader choice with regard to the system environment on your machine as different apps could have certain requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian feature different modules developed by their large support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and take advantage of a reliable and safe hosting service. Based on your selection, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always change the Operating System if the one you have selected at first doesn't meet the requirements of the software that you'd like to run. We can also update your OS routinely to keep it as risk-free as possible with our Managed Services upgrade package.
